A day up the mountain: the temple at dawn before the crowds, then two Hmong villages and lunch with a family.
The minibus leaves the resort at six so you climb the 306 steps to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep with the monks rather than the coaches. Then on up the mountain road to Doi Pui, a Hmong village where the guide has family, for a walk through the terraces and a lunch cooked over wood.
The afternoon is a second, smaller village and a coffee farm on the way down. Wear something that covers the knees and shoulders for the temple.
