Half a day on the River of Grass by airboat, with a naturalist who knows where the alligators sun themselves.
A morning on the Everglades the way it should be seen: fast, low and loud across the sawgrass, then engine off and drifting while the guide points out what you would never have spotted. Alligators, herons, turtles and on a good day a manatee in the canal.
The airboat takes eight and the second hour is a walk on a boardwalk through the cypress with the same guide. Ear protection, water and a cold towel for the ride back are included; breakfast is not, so eat first.
